I was watching Coal Miner’s Daughter and wonder how she learned to play the guitar. There wasn’t anyone there to teach her. It isn’t made known that Doolittle can play and I am sure they didn’t have enough for lessons or books on it. There is just a montage of her playing, nothing taking place during her learning stages or her messing up, just one scene she is able to play.

She taught herself as did Dolly Parton, John Lennon and others. They were musically gifted and played around with the chords. If you watch the parts where she’s writing her songs before she was famous, you’ll see her searching for the chords she wants for the lyrics she’s trying to write.
