: What Type Of Guitar For Beginners?
When I was younger, I started to play guitar but gave up. Recently, a friend of mine has convinced me to try to play again. I want to eventually play electric. Should I get an acoustic/electric or just an acoustic? What type of guitar would you recommend?

If you’re interested in playing the electric guitar then that’s what you should start out on. It will keep you interested and motivated to keep at it until you’re successful. If anything, the electric is easier to learn on because the action is typically lower than on an acoustic guitar and hence it requires less force to fret the strings.
Typically questions like yours get a host of responses telling to learn on an acoustic (even when that’s clearly not what you’re interested in) as if it’s some kind of initiation ritual that all beginning guitarists need to be forced to do. I think that’s silly. The single most important factor for success is having the motivation to stick with it and keep practicing and I suspect that’ll be a lot easier on a guitar that makes the kind of music you like.
Obviously, you have to spend a little more since you’ll need a small practice amp and a cable. Look for a starter pack with guitar, amp, cable, picks, and so on, at your local music store. Good luck.
