I don’t mind being in a group or having a private tutor, just someone who is reasonably priced, and is known to be a good teacher.

I found great voice teachers for my son on craigslist. I was hesitant at first, but pleasantly surprised at the quality of teachers advertising. The first two went on to much bigger and better things after about a year of instruction each, and the third is a friend of the second. I had looked everywhere, conservatories, etc, wasn’t pleased with what I was finding at any price, but craigslist worked for us.

Speak to the teachers a bit, find out their background, see if they are on the same track as you (type of music), try one lesson and see how it goes. You might have to search craigslist for a couple of weeks before finding some good fits.

You can also try PCC extended learning: http://pcclearn.org/ They usually have an intro course, it’s likely the teacher also teaches elsewhere.
