I want to get a Squier Bullet, but I can’t really afford an amp right now.
I’m about to start taking guitar lessons, but all I have right now is a kid’s size acoustic guitar with about 10 frets on it. It’s kind of a piece of crap.
so could I just get an electric w/o the amp, and have it still sound good? or is that just stupid?

Well, the sound won’t be too good, but it won’t be stupid. Try to see if you have a Freecycle around and check to see if they have amps. Ebay also might have cheap ones.
I was actually in the same position you were a few years ago. I started out taking lessons with a cheap kids acoustic. It was really had to learn on it!
